Officials at the White House call this accord “a BAD deal for Americans” and that Trump’s decision to abandon this agreement relates to “his campaign promise to put American workers first.”

Here is Trump’s official statement on leaving the Paris Climate Accord earlier today:

“In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens. The United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord … thank you, thank you … but begin negotiations to reenter either the Paris Accord or an entirely new transaction with terms that are fair to the United States, its businesses, its workers, its people, its taxpayers. So, we’re getting out, but we’ll start to negotiate, and we’ll try and see if we can make a deal that’s fair. And if we can, that’s great.”

Officials believe that the accord “was negotiated poorly by the Obama Administration and signed out of desperation.”White House talking points also mentioned that, “The U.S. is already leading the world in energy production and doesn’t need a bad deal that will harm American workers.”

Here’s a look the congressional talking points from the White House, which defends Trump’s decision to exit the Paris Climate Accord:
