Montana Special Election

1. Both Democrats and Republicans are holding their collective breath Thursday, as the Montana congressional race takes place in a special election. In the last few weeks, Democrats have picked up states seats in areas where the GOP were strongholds on the districts. Thursday’s election between, Democrat Rob Quist and Republican Greg Gianforte appears to be a tight race although, President Trump carried the state in November by 20 points. Wednesday night, GOP nominee Gianforte took issue with a reporter from the Guardian who persisted in asking the candidate about the score the Congressional Budget Office gave the new Trumpcare Healthcare Plan. The reporter, Ben Jacobs, was then, per Fox News reporters who were in the room, was then body slammed by the candidate and “Gianforte then began punching the reporter, stating over and over, “I am sick and tired of this.” Fox reporters have stated that at no time did Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte. Gianforte was cited by local police for the incident and charged with a citation for misdemeanor assault and must appear in court sometime before June 7. Thursday morning, three Montana newspapers withdrew their endorsement for the Republican candidate. Unfortunately, Montana is one of the few states that allow early voting and about 7 out of 10 people have already voted. So, there is a good chance that Gianforte will be elected while being charged in the assault.
