1. Wednesday evening, it was announced that a special counsel will be taking over the Justice Department’s investigation of Russia and the 2016 Presidential election. The investigation focus is on what Russia did to exploit the race in favor of Donald Trump. There is also the investigation into who in the Trump campaign had dealings with Russia and if there was any collusion between the two. The new special counsel is former FBI chief Robert Mueller who served as director for 12 years. On the hill reaction, has been a rare united moment with both Democrats and Republicans agreeing that Mueller is a great pick. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in a statement announcing the special counsel, “I determined that a special counsel is necessary in order for the American people to have full confidence in the outcome.”
