The entire region is under an enhanced (30%) risk for severe storms this afternoon and evening.
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A strong cold front approaching the Delaware Valley along with a warm and humid air mass in place, will bring the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
Skies have been mostly cloudy during the morning hours but any sunshine that develops will help enhance the threat for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The entire region is under an enhanced (30%) risk for severe storms this afternoon and evening.
The best chance for the thunderstorms will be between 4-8 p.m today. The storms will arrive in the North and West suburbs first, then move through the city around 5-6 p.m, and then into Southern NJ after that.
The biggest threat from these storms will be damaging wind potential. However, there is a chance for some hail and even a small chance for a brief isolated tornado.
The cold front will then move through the region later tonight bringing drier conditions. Expect sunshine to return for Monday along with dropping humidity levels.
