PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Letters were sent home to the parents of students at Philadelphia’s George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science, informing them that a student at the school died after suffering from bacterial meningitis.

According to the letter, the student was a male in the ninth-grade at the school located at 1600 West Norris Street in Philadelphia.

School District spokesperson Fernando Gallard told CBS 3 that the 15-year-old died early on Tuesday morning at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Professionals will be sent to the school to counsel and provide support to students at the school.

The school will hold a meeting with parents on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. to answer any further questions on the matter.
